Mission
Such an immensely rich and interesting sphere of human endeavours as art undoubtedly offers its audience priceless and remarkable experiences. A work of art should have an effect on people, and invoke discourse and emotion. It should communicate ideas and the Hodonín Gallery has been doing this for many years with the purpose of enabling this artistic rendezvous. Apart from collecting, registering, preserving and exploring artwork, the Hodonín Gallery has a mission in particular, to make art more accessible as well as to educate a wide range of its visitors.
The Hodonín Gallery of Visual Arts was established in 1960 and ranks among the most superb Czech and Moravian galleries. Not only does it rely on traditional , well proven knowledge stemming from its long history, but it is always actively seeking out new ways to both enrich as well as extend its activities. Besides permanent exhibitions, the Gallery offers a wide range of original as well as guest exhibitions, performances and functions for visitors with different interests. In its halls one can find artwork of Moraviam, Czech but also international artists, mainly from Slovakia or Austria.
The Gallery has a large focus oncontemporary art and in order to support young talent, it organises exhibitions of the youngest generation ( the Young Encounters), monographic exhibitions of individual artists and art workshops. The Gallery gives priority to the presentation of work from those artists somehow linked to South Moravia, whether professionally or by right of having been born here.
Dealing with such local artwork is, undoubtedly, one of its foremost tasks interpreting and evaluating it in relevant contexts with Czech art.
